So, how many got woken up last night at 11:30PM for the NYC Emergency road notification? Oddly, we live outside Philadelphia, which is really far from NYC proper. The notification hit us at 1PM and then again at 11:30PM at night. What controls the region for these? This one seemed to be really far away.

WEA use radio technology to broadcast the alert from cell towers to mobile devices in the area of the threat. Therefore, WEA doesn’t don't know exactly who is tuned in.

I live 50 miles NE of NYC. I would like to get those notifications, as I'm there frequently. Annoying...

That's what's odd, we are more than 50 miles south, but received them. I wonder how they pick the region.

Cell towers are only a couple to a few miles of range, not 50 or 100 miles away.
