It states on my order that the box was shipped out for my Mac Mini trade in. There was no tracking so I contacted Apple and they gave me a FedEx tracking number. The problem is that the shipping label for the trade in box was printed last Thursday morning but it was never picked up by FedEx. I know that you have a certain time limit to send the device in. I guess I’ll wait another day and contact Apple again. I know Apple doesn’t handle the trade-ins themselves so it can maybe be an issue. Have people in the US gotten their trade in box yet? (Assuming you received the Studio this past Friday)? Thanks!

Yes, I got mine on Saturday. New Mac Studio arrived on Friday.

Apple says you have two weeks from receiving the box to return your trade-in.

Thanks for letting me know. I chatted them again and the person said he put in a request to resend the box. It looks like the first one got stuck in limbo for me.

I got sent the wrong box, traded in my Mac Mini and got sent a box for a MacBook! Phoned Apple and they are arranging for the correct one to be sent out. I made sure that the 14 day return period starts when I receive the correct one.

Good point. But who knows if they can handle this properly if everything doesn’t go according to plan. I think trade-ins are usually outsourced to other companies. It depends on how good their link up is. The rep I talked to made it seem like it was easy for them to request another box. But I never saw the tracking number for the first box. Did you see it on the Apple site anywhere? I used to see it under the trade-in info in the past. But when I asked originally, they gave me a FedEx tracking number. Problem is that the box was never picked up by FedEx. Maybe it will eventually show up.

Is Phobio still handling as Apple's 3rd party trade in ??
It just so happens the Apple rep mentioned that name today. But he thought that for some products, Apple handled them directly. So I am not sure. I hope it will work out.

In reply to my other post, received the second box, guess what, yep they sent the same type (one for a MacBook)
After another phone call to Apple they agreed that I could return it in the original packaging. I didn't want take the risk that I would be sent a third wrong one. :(

As an update, I eventually got both boxes. I have to send back my mini. When they send you an empty box, you have to be patient a bit. It stays in Label Created status for 2 or 3 days before being picked up and sent to you.

I don't know if you have an apple store near you, but you can do the trade in person

Received notification of my Studio shipping on Thursday. Soon after I received further notice on the trade in being initiated. Received the trade in kit the next day. Studio was scheduled for Monday delivery, then rescheduled to Tuesday. It made it to Shanghai on Thursday but it has not moved further so Tuesday seems like a real long shot. Dates given when ordered were 31 March to 7 April so Apple has tons of wiggle room for delays. The trashcan being traded in is boxed and ready for UPS Monday morning. M1 Pro MBP is covering in the interim. First trade in I have done and it is good so far. There may be region specific issues for those with delays.

Edit: Four business days inclusive from time my Mac Studio shipped until my trade in was received by Apple and trade in value confirmed, transaction finalized. Received the MS the following day. PDQ.

Yes you are correct. I actually was too hasty and asked Apple to send the empty box again. I eventually received both boxes. I sent the trade in Mac mini back in the second box. The Apple site seems to be tracking it properly since it indicates I had sent the unit back after I dropped it off at FedEx. .

My Mac mini trade-in passed inspection. But it looks like they may just credit me with a gift card. I don’t know if they can give me a refund because I paid via PayPal. I know if you pay directly with a credit card, they will give you a credit on it for the trade in value. I am not sure if that is the case if you paid via PayPal. Apple should be upfront on what payment methods you can get a credit and which you can only receive a gift card.

Sounds like it's Phobio... That's the kind of stuff I have had them do. This is the one big issue with the trade-ins. I know it's slightly off point but the way Apple handles iPhone trade-in is SO MUCH better. Every time I buy a new phone I go to the local store, they scan it, accept it and take the price off the new phone. I KNOW iPhones are different but they need a similar process for Macs. Phobio is terrible from my experience. I'm not looking forward to sending my Imac in for exactly this reason.

I guess I should also be glad that I didn't try trading it in for ~$800 a few years ago--I check trade in values from time to time as an upgrade decision factor. Who knows how much they would have screwed me out of then!

In the future maybe I'll just do an in-store trade in and walk away if I don't like the terms. But TBH I would just have e-wasted the iMac at this point anyway.

To my understanding, you can't trade in a mac at the store. I think it's only through the mail in process which is Phobio. I sold my older MBP on Swappa... which will always give you a way better return than Apple/Phobio. I just didn't want to deal with the hassle this time which is why I'm caving in. :(

That was the old policy, but for the last year or so you can.
I hope someone can correct me if this is wrong but ... I asked Apple and was told that if the order for the new computer and trade in were both initiated on line that the trade in machine had to be mailed and that in store trade in isn't possible.

I read some posts in another thread on this a few weeks back and several people reported they ordered online and were still able to do the trade at the Apple Store. Might be it is such a new program everybody is not familiar with it.

same here ... I though I read that you only need the order number. I'll drop by my Apple store and see what they say. I'd much rather trade in locally if possible.

I'm having major trouble getting a trade-in shipping box for my 2019 Mac Pro (in Europe). I've received 3 boxes for 2013 Mac Pros, and one huge empty box without any padding (and with a shipping label with too low a weight) into which I'm certainly not going to put the Mac Pro.
