Empty trash option

I posted this a few weeks ago, with no responses, and thought I'd try again. I've set my email trash to empty once a day--these are deleted messages--but it's not happening. Any solutions, please?

What kind of email account do you have and is your only account. I am use Yahoo Push without any problems. When I go into the Trash Folder it shows mail from "Yesterday" but in a couple of seconds it says "Connecting / Checking for Mail" and then the "Yesterday" mail is removed.

I have POP3 email account (just the one)--a verizon.net address.

You did check the box above, right? Otherwise, it's not enabled, AFAIK.

I have gmail, does it work with that? it's a pain to have to delete things in the trash after I already deleted em by hand
