I had set my iPhone and iPad to US a few days ago and News showed up when I installed iOS 9 this evening .
It's actually quite nice :))))

I have left in the 24h forme and C° . I haven't found a way to turn ml in km , it is annoying ...
I noticed apps such as Tinder uses Mile to indicate distances, whereas I am used to Kilometer. Which is kinda annoying.

For Maps , I have found this :

Here's how you can change the distance settings in iOS 6 Maps so that all distances are in kilometers instead of miles.

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Scroll down.

3. Tap on Maps.

4. Tap on "In Kilometers" under Distances.

Now, all distances will appear in kilometers instead of miles when you use the Maps application in iOS 6 on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Damn. I don't like this kind of Region-specific new Apple at all. SIRI Remote anyone?

From settings go to General >region settings > change that to US and restart your device. it should appear right after that. worked for me :)
iOS9 only
I know it's easy to make the News app show on the home screen. But my problem is, I live in China, when I open the News app, it says, "News isn't supported in your current region." The only solution I find to this is to connect to a VPN server while simultaneously turn on airplane mode. This is very tedious and disgusting, because when airplane mode is turn on, your iPhone can't make or receive calls. I wonder does anybody have a better solution?

Apple has never been region-specific before. You can get US-only apps and services even you're in Russia, provide you have US account. Now News won't show up unless you specifically change Region setting.
SIRI Remote is the new remote control on new Apple TV, available only in some countries.

Yes they have. Spotlight Suggestions is also dependent upon regional settings. Same for Apple Pay.

And all these is quite recently. Like I said.. The new Apple...

(Apple Pay is region-specific by nature so no one should complain about it.)

Don't blame Apple for this: blame things like the EU that have vastly different rules for operating online than does the US.

The UK makes its own laws. So we don't need to follow every rule put forward by the EU.

Every EU country makes its own laws, we’re not living in a unitary European state. Blocking access to online services within the internal market is actually something the EU is strongly against (and they are doing something about it soon). If there is an EU law that makes services like News or Spotlight Suggestions difficult or impossible then it would equally affect the UK as well. The more likely truth (and that follows from the fact that also e.g. in Canada people cannot use News or Apple Pay) is that Apple chose to regionally restrict News and Spotlight Suggestions to make sure that the services work well in those countries, rather than offering a poor experience. Same with Apple Pay, Apple is simply not supporting the Canadian dollar or Euro yet. This is Apple’s doing, the EU has nothing to do with it.

News is present and running in 9.1 in UK so my (uneducated) guess would be maybe Apple were just launching it to a limited market to start with to see how it worked then spreading it out further. It's only like Flipboard so can't imagine it's a localisation "permissions" issue. Can it? The world can't be that screwed up surely?

I think the biggest hold out to Pay in EU at least is the banks not wanting to adopt it for some reason. No point Apple launching it if no bank / card issuers want to be part of it / have agreed terms.

The issue isn't Apple Pay its aversion to contactless pay, not every country in the EU has jumped on the contactless pay bandwagon like the UK, the infrastructure has to be there in the first place to support the technology. That isn't as directly tied to the banks as people seem to think. If companies in the UK hadn't already shelled out for updated readers as far back as 2008 I very much doubt Apple Pay would have launched in the UK at all.

I think bringing Apple Pay to the Eurozone is a tough undertaking. Strict financial regulations post-financial crisis and in general there is much less enthusiasm for novel payment methods like contactless payments (hence the missing infrastructure). The UK was predestined for Apple Pay, because of more lenient financial regulations, a relatively small number of banks and a greater adoption of NFC terminals, in particular in London (hence why they partnered with TfL). Apple needs success stories and they have no problem waiting until the conditions for entry are adequate.

Huh. I was led to believe that contactless was ubiquitous in Europe. If not, then that would certainly explain the delay. Although, that wouldn't hold true for Canada. If you believe Rene Richie they've had contactless as long as we have, or even longer. So maybe the true reasons are a combination of both scenarios?

What is the drawback to doing this? Does it mess anything up?!
Buying stuff from iTunes can be a pain if you don't have a US credit card (though the content selection is the best). I can get around it by purchasing US iTunes cards online, but it's still annoying.

Some countries are, but definitely not many. I think the Benelux and Nordic countries are very open to novel payment methods, but the rest of Europe typically isn’t. In Germany most people (80%+) seem to prefer paying with cash. Moreover, the iPhone isn’t nearly as popular in continental Europe as in the US and the Commonwealth. It brings the problem that supporting the Euro or the currencies of the Nordic countries is not high on the priority list of Apple. They will likely bring it to Canada, Japan and Australia first.

I think it is delayed. On iOS 9.1 it is there with region set to UK.

Don't do this on the phone. Do it on iPad instead.
