Enable non-mac operating systems to write files to iOS over USB

I need to transfer files from my Chromebook and / or Android phone to my iPhone Xs and thus far can't come up with any good options. I can't use any of the file transfer apps that require both devices to be on the same network, and instead need them to be directly connected to eachother over usb.

When I connect my iPhone to my Chromebook I see a directory containing my photos and can read from them, bit not write to them. My Linux laptop detects several directories when plugged in, but can't write to any of them either.

I need that key ability to write a file to my phone from any other computer / phone over USB.

There are some apps that allow you to write to a USB hard drive and use that with the app and thus iOS. But you can't directly get what you're asking for.

Aside from mentioned above, you can also use things like iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. to get your files over. Or I gues mail them to yourself.

On Macs you can use Airdrop but even then USB file transfer is quite limited.

Sadly this is not something that can be done easily without any wireless connections. Neither apple nor google value wired connections as much as maybe 5 years ago, or ever.
Maybe, if you use some sort of software that creates hotspots from your Linux PC, effectively turning it into a router that other devices can connect to, you can transfer files between android and iOS devices.

1. Upload those files to Google Drive and access them on the iPhone using Google Drive app.
2. The iPhone is not what you want then. Sell it and stick with Android. No point in fussing up about something that the iPhone wasn’t designed to.

This isn't a USB method but it doesn't require your devices to be on the same network.

Goto iCloud.com on the Chromebook, upload your files, goto files on the iPhone and they should be there ready for you to download. This requires iCloud space though. You could use Google Drive, DropBox, etc for that matter.

While their might be a USB method, keep in mind you are dealing with file system incompatibility. You can likely read APFS but your file system can't write to it. You would need an app that works as a go between to essentially act as a middle man. So your exFAT Android device send the file to the go between app that's using a proprietary file system that then sends it to the iPhone APFS drive.....IF such a thing exist. Paragon is popular one for Windows.
