I bought my 3G iPad Wednesday. I decided to wait until yesterday (the 1st of the month) to enable 3G with AT&T.

I filled out the screens, put in my CC data and within a couple of minutes, 3G was active and has been working since.

However, AT&T has yet to bill me. There is not even a temporary hold showing up.

Anyone have experience on how long after initial sign up and how long before the new month begins before AT&T bills for the service?

I'm not sure why this is important to you but I signed up on June 3rd and they charged my card on the 4th.

Keep in mind that transactions and posting dates vary depending on their cutoffs (i.e. The time of dsy) and this being a holiday weekend its possible you won't see a charge post until next week.

Why do you care again?

Why worry?

I do not use credit cards. I only keep one for situations where cash can not be used. When I use it, I pay it as soon as the charge shows up to help me keep my budget in-line. I used to be terribly in debt and would pay by CC at the drop of a hat.

Kind of weird huh...not liking debt?

I got my renewal this morning for tomorrows expiration. Notice it was NOT the two hours before they once again stated in the email it would be.

I thought mine was almost instant last month when i signed up for the billing, but don't remember. It could just be the transaction batch and all that.

You should consider a debit card rather than a credit card then. I use only my debit as I do not like to pay bills later. Personal choice.

That is a great idea, until someone buys $475 worth of "gift cards" after they steal you account (changed the email address, and then the password so I wouldn't know it was happening... first indication was when I saw the charges show up on my CC and discovered my account was unaccessable to me). True story. Google "itunes fraud" to discover how common itunes account hijacking is.

Apple Itunes refused to do anything about it; said my only recourse was a chargeback by my cc company (I called my cc company immediately after the charges occurred). BTW, Apple CS won't help you out, and Apple Itunes CS can only be contacted via email or "chat" (which never worked). ????

If it was a debit card, I probably wouldn't have gotten my $475 back until after the investigation was complete. But since it was a cc, I never had to pay.

i still have 23hrs on my account but this morning i received a auto-renewal for the granfathered (unlimited)

Find yourself a better bank then. Back at christmas someone used my debit card number to buy $1,100 worth of stuff, and my bank replaced the money as soon as I called. They cancelled the card, and reissued me a new one at the local branch. They do a short investigation to see what happened and close the case.

Interesting thanks for the info. I thought I was safe but I decided to up my security. I am using PayPal for my payments now instead of a credit card.
I believe PayPal is more secure if you set it up right. I enrolled in the Identity Protection Program with key-fob which generates a number that has to match the online generator to get into the account. I have the same device on my ebay and PayPay accounts since ebay bought PayPal. I think that is pretty secure.

Anyone stealing your debit card can only take as much money as you have in that account. Set up a separate account and put as much money in there as you are willing to lose should it get stolen. Link it to your main account so you can transfer more funds to it whenever you wish.

Or, now that I know your situation, there is no crime in paying the credit card company before the charge posts. There is no tax on the service so you know exactly what the charge will be. Just pay it now and you'll show a credit balance until the charge posts.

Yea that's what I did too. In addition to having the key generator and separate passwords to get into my Ebay and PayPal, I have set up my PayPal to debit from a separate bank account that I transfer money into as needed. That's pretty secure but I still have to use a regular credit card for those merchants that do not use PayPal. Plus I have a debit card I only use for gas and groceries.. If someone steals my credit card info from an online vendor they could put me at risk and I have had my card reissued several times because of that. I haven't lost any money though. Other than the money I spent on junk from Ebay that is.

I would not be too concerned about this as large companies like this will always end up billing you, even if it isn't done promptly they never forget.
