I have :apple:tv with 2.3 installed on it. I have hacked it for Boxee and I am loving it! I would like to use the NitoTV havk to enable the USB for external use, however I am running into issues. I found the instructions but they were all for :apple:tv 1.0. I tried them anyways but it did not work. Does anyone have a better solution? I am not strong at all with Unix so it will have to be spelled out pretty clearly for me.

Everything you can want is here: http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Main_Page. In particular enabling USB you can find here: http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_USB. If you ran the patchstick to install Boxee all you need to do is run the installer for NitoTV. Follow the instructions here: http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_USB_Storage_on_1.x#Copy_files_to_AppleTV for "Copy files to AppleTV" and then run the NitoTV installer you should be good to go.

That looks like it would work for version 1.0, but will it work with :apple:tv 2.3?

It does work for 2.3, it is the procedure that I followed which worked for me. Look at http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Take_2_Full_Update in the section "Required Files", it will tell you obviously the "required files" and where they need to be copied to the AppleTV. Either copy the 7 files that are listed, or you can copy the MacOS X 10.4.9 Combo Updater to the AppleTV. Either way NitoTV needs these files in order to work successfully(enable USB).

It does work, try it out.

Short version:
Update AppleTV to Version 2.3
Run Patchstick (which you have already done?)
Either SSH the required 7 files to AppleTV or MacOS X 10.4.9 Combo Updater
Run the installer for NitoTV from AppleTV or manually.

Plug USB drive into AppleTV, reboot and USB drive should be recognized.

It's even easier than that (or at least it might be) I didn't even have to copy the files for 10.4.9 over, nitoTV automatically downloaded them itself.

You are right. I have run the patch stick/jailbroken my AppleTV twice. The first time NitoTV downloaded the needed files by itself. The second time it did not so I just added the files myself, ran NitoTV and the USB was enabled again. I just gave MacKinvan extra options to try.
