I have used handbrake to encode over 400 movie DVD's and it worked great. I have now moved onto my TV shows. I Started with everybody loves raymond and the first 4 seasons went well. For the DVD movies and the first 4 seasons i used the high profile setting in HB (one of the nightly builds) the only change i made was to set the RF to 19.

When i encoded season 5 i used the new HB AppleTV 2 preset, the resulting file when played back on my ATV (2nd Gen) looks bad. When someone wears a plaid shirt the picture "flashes" (best way i can describe it). I also notice some jaggedness when characters move.

I went back and the used the same high profile setting as before and it did look better, but now i wonder what would be the best setting to use in HB.

One of the differences with ELR is they switched to a wide screen format in season 4

I have encoded 16 different TV Shows, every single season of each, and I just used either Universal or Normal on all of them with the h.264 codec.

My TV Shows were all either AVI or MKV, converted to mp4, and they all came out playing perfectly.

Ok thanks for that. I am ripping mine from DVD's. I have noticed that when played back on the ATV in the bedroom on our Magnavox TV i do not see the same "flashes".

The TV i see them on is the Vizio.

The jaggedness may be from the Apple TV 2 preset not having detelecline and decomb filters turned on. I got the same when I encoded an older show from DVD using Normal. The High Profile preset has these filters turned on that should fix those. Just keep using High Profile.

Thanks for the response, that is what i will do.
