Anyone else remember SJ saying "we are a computer company first" when the iPod was blowing up? Riiiight.

Just like the year of HD. :( I will miss Apple Computer.

I missed that in the keynote - and there's a front page story on it. But good grab on the home page - who knows when it will happen...

As long as they keep making computers I'm good.

Exactly.

I just hope that in 40 years or so when someone else is running the company, they don't forget where it all started and decide to drop the computer business because it isn't as profitable as they would like or something.

In 40 years the bulk of us will probably be dead

Plus 40 years is almost 1/2 a century, I'd be surprised if computers are still the way they are today then. Everything in that era might be a computer, and a computer as it is now might be an obsolete concept.

30 years ago, we didn't really have computers that were useful to individuals. Now think 40 years from now... Technology is evolving exponentially if you believe people like Raymond Kurzweil, so I'm pretty positive, we won't have "computers" in 40 years from now. Digital devices (or whatever will evolve from the digital world of ones and zeros) will continuously merge with the biologic world so there won't be any need for computers any more - it's gonna be everywhere. Apple Inc will likely be led by an artificial intelligence like the rest of the world someday. If we're lucky, Apple will remain innovative and be one of the first to make the "transition".

... :p

Damn, you beat me to it. :) That would be terrible if we still used keyboards and mice in 20 years. It already feels obsolete right now for lots of tasks. Multi-Touch is one step to make everything more easy and quick to use, I expect more computer-human (or human-computer?) integration in the future. I wish my computer could read my mind sometimes, so I wouldn't have to interact with it that much.

Indeed. I wasn't paying attention earlier, but it evidently changed shortly after andrewxps took that screenshot. Surprised they didn't change it when the new site content went live minutes after the keynote.

And I for one welcome our new Apple, Inc. Overloards!
