End of Netflix Support

Looks like it's the end of the road for Netflix on El Capitan 10.11. Chrome 103 and Firefox 78 now both show that the browser is unsupported. Safari 11 also doesn't work anymore since Silverlight was deprecated last year.

Not a big deal for me as I normally don't watch Netflix on a computer screen.

This also affects Chrome on Sierra 10.12, High Sierra 10.13 and Mojave 10.14.

You must use Firefox 115 or another current browser on those systems to use Netflix.

I think most people won't care, but it's still unnecessary because the machines are still capable of streaming. I don't like it. Please don't start a calculation about how old those machines must be, I know, I have several other modern Macs, but why get rid of something that works from a technical point of view..

A little late, but I only realised this recently. Like you, I don’t stream on my Mac (a 2015 MacBook Pro running El Cap), but I tried it once and I noticed I couldn’t use it anymore.

Sad, because Netflix is one of the best apps in terms of compatibility: iOS versions are backwards compatible. I can run Netflix on, say, iOS 10.

Smart TV versions are compatible, too. Somebody had a Netflix version that was dated all the way back to... 2012! and it worked flawlessly.

Sadly, browsers are a bit more difficult.

Yeah, that’s possible, but I’m not willing to update my 2015 13” MacBook Pro from El Cap.

I just find it a little sad that Netflix is compatible on old iOS versions and not on Mac.

I'm okay with Netflix not working on old MacOS. I understand that using vintage technology requires compromises (if that's even the word) and I'm totally fine with that.

Booting up my old Windows 95 machines still gives me joy years later! Things aren't "built to last" like they used to be.

I disagree, I think it could work perfectly. You have other examples: why does WhatsApp require iOS 12 on iOS (2018), yet requires Android 5.0 Lollipop (2014) instead? There’s no valid justification. If I once saw Netflix run with a 2012 version on a Smart TV, there’s no reason why it can’t run on a browser that got support until... 2022!!!!!!

Less than two years! Are you joking? You remove support for a browser that’s only two years out of date? Ridiculous.
