…is this true for all M2 machines? [edit: h/t @dwaite for answering this—the following still holds, especially with @junior's response]Tangentially, I'm frustrated that somehow Apple dropped wired earpod in line mic support from macs since my M2 MBA doesn't support it... Not sure how much additional cost the combo analog digital 3.5mm ports were but those things disappearing were a net loss too...
dunno about “roaming around the house…” my connection tends to start cutting off around the kitchen area when my phone’s in my bedroom. that’s a pretty hilarious gaffe on Samsung’s part though. 😂The next big thing? Looks like that stupid Samsung commercial where they forgot that AirPods were wireless and showed iPhone users with all these wires. When in reality the iPhone could charge, be left on a charger and play music while you roamed around the house with no wires. Classic Samsung!
this is something that’s always bothered me- no one knows what they do with post-consumer AirPods. they could just be contributing to more landfill waste with one of their best-selling products (if seeing them in tons of peoples’ ears is anything to go off of) all while continuing to shill their environmental narrative to us.Okay. Seems a huge step backwards, but... So AirPod Pros are the Crocks of the ear bud market? Not surprised, but likely all of their competitors are too. Getting in them to service them is not going to be pretty. I wonder how Apple/anyone would get the batteries out of them to recycle the rest. Do they just toss them into a grinder and distill the remains?

what a joke, even if it’s “just” on the MBA (yknow, their best-selling Mac). their profit margins are so damn high—that’s an absurdly minor thing to remove from what is supposed to be a PREMIUM product. (this has me salty with my oft-spoken-of M2 MBP purchase, which is otherwise an amazing product.)
anyway, love this concept. Apple will never release a new pair of wired earbuds/headphones again but it certainly brings light as to why that would be useful/better for the environment (looking at you, Lisa Jackson) for a multitude of reasons.
it's April 1st, right?

fair point—I’m still blown away by the sheer lack of noise coming from my MBP, I don’t think the fans have turned on once since I bought it.Profit margin, historically, has been a hard thing to judge with Apple products. I remember the stories of the 'special screws' steve jobs had to have in the Next systems, and the efforts they went through to insure that the chips were all aligned the same way. Such examples of OC behavior add to the cost of goods sold. And all of the engineering to eliminate fans, and the intricate manufacturing for some of their products. Some of which seem to be built using some kind of magic...
Right, just imagine how much thinner and lighter it could be without the internal battery!By the way, I've heard they invented a wired phone now. Intriguing!
Hardware prototyping consultant Ken Pillonel has added wires and a USB-C connector to a set of AirPods, bypassing the need for its charging case.
As of September, you just plug them into your USB-C iPhone. No case needed.
Connect it to the AR/VR headset's waist belt battery pack 🤣Or you just solder some cables to the charging pins and connect them to a powerbank… 🤓
