I am on Catalina with a Swiss keyboard layout. While the Swiss quotation marks are «» I need to use the proper single stroke English ones for a paper. However, I cannot find out how to write them. I only have this single stroke ' that is pretty useless. I can write “ and ” with alt+2 and alt+shift+2, but not the single stroke ones.

Does anyone know how I can get the proper ones?

[`] on a German-Swiss keyboard is [shift+=]
[´] on a German-Swiss keyboard is [alt+=]

I found these by using the German-Swiss language keyboard in the built-in Keyboard Viewer in MacOS, which can be added to the Menu Bar from within the Keyboard preference panel.

Thank you for your suggestion. Turn out, it is alt+¨/! and alt+shift+¨/! for ‘ and ’. I did not know the keyboard viewer, which makes finding certain symbols much easier. I tried alt+every key on the keyboard.
