Airpods are the one item I think it makes sense to engrave, because a) unlikely to sell b) most likely to lose/leave behind.

I'm looking for some engraving ideas. I spent a lot of time trying to decide for my AirPods 3. Going back and forth between whimsical/fun and practical. I ended up going practical and use my first and last name. My rationale is it's more important to retrieve your Airpods than be whimsical. Well I ended up leaving them at the movie theater never to be seen again... (first time I've ever actually lost something of value like that)

Now the time has come again, because I'm planning to get AirPods Pro 2. I'm honestly considering putting my phone number. Is that weird? I figure the easier I make it for someone to contact me the more likely they will contact me.

You could do the same thing with a sticker or piece of tape. If an honest person finds your lost AirPods they'll contact you. If they're not, they won't.

I don't know how durable the labels from Apple will be or if a bit of rubbing alcohol or goo gone will take them off with a really fine sanding cloth. But if you have a Brother label maker, they have a security label tape that is hard to remove plus leaves a tamper pattern behind when you do. I got a yellow version when someone at the care home kept stealing my dad's kindle and it put a stop to that. The person stealing got caught red handed because their usual trick of rubbing alcohol wasn't able to take the label off.

There is white too, for that apple aesthetic. Combine that with Find My for the case and there will either be your label on it or obvious evidence that it was removed when you catch up to it. Plus as many characters as you want and whatever extended characters your printer supports (mine does emoji too).
