Hi!

I would like to enroll devices to my OS X Server - Profile Manager during Setup Assistant, after setting device as supervised via the Apple Configurator, but i can't figure out how.

What MDM server URL should i add in the Device Enrollment Payload? https://my.server.com/?????

Do i need to include any certificates, trusted profiles, enrollment profile or such?

Thanks!

OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), OS X Server 3.2.2 & Configurator 1.7.1

Haven't tried it as such yet, but I would try the following:

1. Manually enrol an iPad to Profile Manager.

2. Check inside the installed manage-profiles on the iPad what the URL was which was used to connect.
Should be something like: "https://your.server.ip//devicemanagement/api/device/mdm-connect".

3. Yes, you need the CA certificates.

I hope this works.

Update from my side:
Been testing and trying myself, but it didn't work for me.

I am now trying the following:
https://my.server.ip/devicemanagement/... (mdm/enroll/... etc.)

How are you getting along?

Sorry for my late reply!
I'm still working on finding the best way to do this. At the moment i do it like this:
Via Configurator set a supervised, name the device as the user and install enrollment profile and trust profile, all at the same time.

That will put the device in PM but not assigned to a user, that i do manually.

What i would like to achieve is for the user to do the enrollment during setup... I'm surprised there aren't more talk about this on the forums..

A murky-at-best answer, but I attended an Apple Education training about a year ago that addressed having users provision / enroll a new iPad out-of-the-box. It enrolls itself into PM and associates itself with an AD or OD user account. Granted, only iPads purchased thru Apple Education will do this (maybe Apple Business as well?).

District IT admins sign up to a special Apple portal and create an activation SSID / VLAN. This cues the iPad to enroll itself with the school's OS X Server during the initial out-of-box setup. This profile is non-removable. The result is that users can just unbox the equipment on their own. I *think* there's a similar option for businesses.
