Entire iTunes Library stored on ATV, playable on ATV & streamed to Mac - help!

Long time lurker, first time poster...
(Yes, I've run searches on this, and looked over on AppleTVHacks.net in detail)

What I want to have (woking properly): Music Content Stored entirely on the ATV.

But I need the conditions below to be met also...

• Must be able to play on the ATV (i.e. through Home Theater).
• Must be able to stream to my iMac for playing in another part of the house.
• Must be able to add new tracks to the ATV, and update meta info on the tracks from time to time.
• Must be able to use the one library & update play counts, etc

What I was thinking is to change my Mac iTunes Library to access all the audio files from the ATV - stored in /Volumes/Media/Media Files - and deleting the ones on my local iMac and then hitting Sync. However, I get the funny feeling if i do that, the ATV will not like it, and may lose my 6000 odd songs I once spent a week ripping...

FYI, I have hacked the ATV, and enabled SSH, installed programs and all that jazz and can access all volumes from remote machines.

Any ideas on the right solution?

Uh, maybe you should back up your library to another drive first. Maybe via Time machine or just copy the iTunes library to another drive so that you never lose all your songs.
Next, tv isn't the hub, your computer is. Sounds to me like you want to STREAM your songs to tv. That way you are always accessing your current library. Problem here is that everytime your computer goes to sleep, tv loses connectivity, so set your computer to stay awake.
If you need access to your music elsewhere, then use an airport express for those locations.

The /Media folder where the TV stores its files is NOT the same as an iTunes Library folder. If you dig around in that folder all you will see are a bunch of folders called "f001" and "f092" with files inside them called "FHRY.mp4" and "YRDG.m4a". These are in fact your movies and songs, but not organized or named in a very obvious way, and not in a way that iTunes could recognize them if you pointed your computer to them.

Don't mean to ruin your dreams, but I don't think what you are after is at all possible, or really very useful, if you understand the way the TV is meant to be used. As the previous poster said, the computer is meant to be the hub, not the TV. Your one single library that you keep adding to and updating is via iTunes on your iMac...just sync or stream to the TV and it will always reflect the latest and greatest...why struggle to manage everything through the TV?
