Any one using Entourage with MobileMe? I searched for Entourage but got no matches.

Is there a direct sync? Or must it go through iCal?

I use Entourage. Originally, I set up the Entourage calendar on my PowerBook and paid no attention to iCal because I don't use it. The Entourage calendar worked fine during that time. Two weeks ago, the Entourage calendar stopped syncing with MobileMe. The "genius" at the Genius Bar gave up and told me he thought I needed to use iCal. The web-based MobileMe support person, once I was able to make contact with him, told me that Apple doesn't support Entourage and its calendar doesn't work with MobileMe. I told him it had been working fine for several weeks. He took me through all the steps I had already tried without success. Entourage and MobileMe continued to not communicate with each other. I tried setting up iCal with both Entourage and MobileMe, but it didn't work with MobileMe either, although I could get iCal and Entourage to exchange calendar information. During this time, my iPhone synced with MobileMe without problem. I finally checked my desktop, a 24" Aluminum iMac, and discovered that Entourage was syncing just fine with MobileMe. I then updated Entourage with the recent Office updater and suddenly Entourage began syncing again. So the short version of my answer is that Entourage does in fact work with MobileMe and doesn't seem to need to go through iCal, but I can't be certain at this point because I'm not sure which of the various things I did caused Entourage to start working again. I can assure you that Apple shrugs its shoulders when you mention Entourage and will not give you any useful assistance.

I am new to the Mac paltform other than iPhobes. Got an iMac and will be setting office this weekend. In the meantime MobilMe syncd fine with ical and Address Book. I may just start using those apps instead of Entourage. Thanks for the info you shared.

Entourage is pretty much useless. Everyone I know, except my mom, uses Mail, Address Book and iCal. My mom only uses Entourage because she's been using it forever... I think before there was really a 'Mac' alternative.

Anyway unless you are trading your documents with other people in your office or are constantly correcting your classmates papers and trading documents around then I think iWork would be a better suite than office. It's cheaper and integrates into OS X much better.

Entourage is not useless; I've been using it for many years. It works fine. And it integrates e-mail, calendar, and contacts into one application, which seems more streamlined to me than to have three separate applications. It's a matter of personal preference. But the attitude that Entourage users should just give up and use iCal doesn't seem very helpful--and there is no need to give up since Entourage does in fact work with MobileMe.

sorry, that's not what I meant. I meant that it just seems to make more sense to use the apps that already comes with the computer rather than installing another piece of software.

Entourage help needed

Help! I am new to Mac and have been having problem synching mobile me with my Entourage Calendar. I have 'reset' it a few times and still the calendar synch is not working. Should I be doing something else?
Thx!

You should be using iCal, Address Book and Mail. MobileMe doesn't support Entourage.

That might make sense if mail.app worked even half as well as Entourage for accessing my Exchange email. Entourage connects via ActiveSync at work and via OWA at home. Mail.app doesn't even support ActiveSync, and it chokes on my OWA connection. I use Entourage for work-related stuff and mail.app for other things. And until recently, Entourage worked well with iCal and MobileMe; I cannot say if it still does b/c since the iPhone now supports ActiveSync I use that as a conduit for my calendar, and no longer use the Entourage/iCal sync.

Sticking with Entourage--so far

I like the integration of calendar, mail and address book in one app. I also like the Entourage Project Center, which really pulls everything together in one place, including files, notes, tasks, scrapbook and clippings. Everything is linked to everything else including mail messages.

The downsides: Entourage is a bit ugly and PC-like. I'm still using 2004, so maybe 2008 is more elegant. Syncing with iCal works fine for me, except for one weird glitch. Any all-day events created in Entourage extends into the next day on my ipod Touch. It's correct in iCal as well as the MobileMe web app. Syncing through iTunes rather than MobileMe has the same result. The fact that Entourage uses categories and iCal uses separate calendars forces me to put everything in one iCal calendar called Entourage, so I can't take advantage of color-coding my events except in Entourage.

I've played around with just switching to the Apple apps. I've looked at Google, etc. I just don't want to give up the advantages of Entourage. If you set it up the way you want it, turn off as many tools bars, etc. as possible it has a fairly clean look. I opened every single toolbar and palette and window one time and it was the most hideous site you ever saw. The fact you can hide it all is Entourage's saving grace. In the end, it's more versatile and powerful and feature-rich than any Apple program or combination of programs.
