hi... mac noob here...
i have been waiting on the 2012 mini mainly to make sure i got the latest and greatest, no other reason. ready to buy, but would like some insight on proper configuration
application is media access for my tv. audio, photo, and web access (for video content). will not be ripping dvd's or composing video. light photo editing, importing my vinyl collection, and web browsing... replacing my gen1 appleTV (which sucks for photo management and i want a browser). ideally i'll use one of the front ends and remote to make it look/feel like aTV for my wife
mini is probably overkill, but form factor is great for living area and it's well supported.
ideally i think i'd prefer ssd to keep noise low (when listening to low level audio passages) but don't think i need a mid level processor. should i be concerned with this or look at 3rd party (one-world-computing?) solutions... any downside with 3rd party ssds'?
as i'll need more storage than i want to pay for in ssd $'s, would something like those portable western digital drives work for audio/photo transfer rates? that has the bonus that i can easily transfer to my other house for syncing with my media NAS.... should be quiet and low power
finally a few apple questions..
i tried to configure an entry level i5 system with wireless keyboard, but apple.com wouldn't let me select the keyboard... site glitch or compatibility issue?
also, i understand the mini with not work as an airplay reciever... seems like an omission for htpc applications. luckily my denon avr supports airplay, but still...
