Environment Usage

I've read about people using their macbook air's not being hot at all, now i opened mine about 3 hours ago (11.6", 4GB Ram, 1.4gHz, 64GB) and it has been warm (not horribly warm, just more than i was expecting) first when i updated everything, and that was understandable.

but in general use is has been warm.


So my main question is, how much does the environment effect the computers ability to cool itself (i'm in 37 Degrees Celsius (99F) hot summer right now)

well, the bottom of my computer gets warm when i have it on my lap but when i have it on the table the bottom is noticeably cooler. The heat is being pushed out through the bottom of the black hinge. The environment will play a roll at that temperature, that is extremely warm

Yeah, when using pretty much any laptop on a flat surface, it will run cooler.

Compared to my old 13inch pro which would get very warm even after very light usage (which really annoyed me) the bottom of my 11 inch air doesn't get warm at all, even streaming 720p flash video. I know the cpu is being heavily used, but the bottom is just warm compared to hot which I really appreciate.

I dont know if I would even concider using my laptop at those temperatures, in the sun I'm assuming?

If you're lucky to have aircon the temperatures are a bit nicer, but direct sunlight really doesn't make too much difference. you're lucky if it drops about 3 degrees in shade at the moment
