Right, my dads been unhappy with the output from his epson photo 750 for a long time,

Apparently under OS 8.6 with the drivers it came with, it was fine, but since OS 9 (including OS X of course) the printed pages have been extremely dark compared to what on the screen.

If i set the screen up with the colorsync bit of the display panel in the system prefs the screen is too dark to work with.

I'm not big on printing, but i think you can use colorsync to make what the mac sends to the printer brighter and other misc settings to make it look closer to the screen,

I've been looking for info about this but have found nothing of any use, and searching for profiles turned anything up

Also, printing from my powerbook is also very dark, i can brighten the image in photoshop and it's fine on the print, but looks far too bright on the screen, and lastly, we don't use overly bright screens, if anything rather dim :)

If I'm going about this from the wrong angle feel free to point me the right way :D

When you print out you can change the printers color settings in the printer dialog, color management box, you can then save different settings for different parers, quality settings etc.

OK, both my powerbook and dads imac don't have color management in that drop down

I'm thinking this maybe a driver issue or some sort

*checks current driver*

EPSON Stylus Photo 750 - CUPS+Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2

I'll have a look on dads imac in a bit, and see what else is available :)

Changing to the drivers Epson have on their site doesn't seem to effect anything

And their doesn't seem to be any other suitable drivers on the imac.

are you using os10? The color panel drops down from "Copies & Pages". I am using the default drivers that came with osX for both a 740 & 2000p both have the color management sliders.

You have to select "Color Controls" to get that slider up, they do not appear if you have "color sync" selected.

Ya, running tiger, the menu was the same in panther though, i dont remember how it was in jaguar, but i do remember the same set of sliders that are in your shot in OS9, never seen them under OS X

I can't see anywhere to select Color Controls in anything colour related.

This is what my menu looks like (see attached)

this is a bit odd. I am getting the dialog box you show only when looking at a shared printer (on another machine) I get the box i posted if i look at that printer directly!

With the dialog box you have select, Printer Features > Expert Settings 1. you should then get brightness & contrast controls. they are drop down menus not sliders.

hope this helps
