I am using a Epson v600 scanner with Mac Sierra and the latest Epson drivers on an 2012 i7 mac mini with 16gb of memory and an SSD drive . I am trying to scan family photos graphs. For the most part I can put multiple photos in the canner and the epson scanner will separate them into individual files.

The problem is it keeps stalling out when its scanning and requires a click on the screen after it scans one or two photos.

At first I though it was because I was multitasking, but even when that program is up front and nothing else is going on, I can come back to the computer a 1/2 hour later and it has only scanned one photo until I click something.

I am running the newest epson drivers, anyone have a solution or work around?

I know something isn't working right. Its really slowing things down, I have hundreds of photos to do.

Vuescan for almost all scanners.

Ill give it a try, its tough paying $80 for something that should have came with the scanner. Hopefully the trial version allows you to see how scanning multiple photographs work.

Epson isn't going a good job communicating the patch they released a year or two ago for all of the V perfection series film scanners (V500, V600, V700, V750, etc. film scanners).

After downloading Epson Scan Utility and installing it, search for your scanner on their support archives and look for the EPSON SCAN COMMON UPDATER v1.00 this is effectively their High Sierra Patch.

This effectively resolves this issue:

"The version corrects possible pauses when scanning multiple items at once and an error that occurs when saving to a network folder."

Important: The EPSON Scan Utility must be installed prior to installing this updater.

Vuescan for almost all scanners.

I am a big time user of Vuescan(in fact I've bought it twice-the first time the 1 year license, the second time the pro "perpetual" license), but it has its weaknesses and I don't think it's a great solution for the OP.

Specifically, it sounds like the OP wants to pile multiple photos on the bed and let the scan software pick the borders. Admittedly I don't think I've scanned flats with Vuescan...or scanned them with my V700 for that matter...but at least with film you have to manually select the scan area. Epson Scan will automatically pick the frames and you can automate them as separate files...Vuescan is VERY tedious for volume work-even with film I can let Epson Scan(and Nikon Scan) pick the scan area in the preview, tweak it as necessary, make the level/curve adjustments frame by frame as I want and then let it rip.

Also, as another criticism, Epson scanners(and Nikon scanners) have Digital ICE, which refers BOTH to infrared channel scanning and the Kodak software algorithms that make use of this information. Epson Scan(and Nikon Scan) include the Kodak algorithms. Vuescan has their own "Infrared Cleaning" that in my experience is not anywhere near as effective as ICE. Since you can only use IR cleaning on transparencies, this isn't relative to the OP but it's kind of a make or break thing for me on a scanner. I can provide examples to show ICE working better if anyone would like.

Thanks for both replies, to my old post. i appreciate the heads on vuescan and info about the updated scanner driver.
I did install the High Sierra patch and will have to give it a shot and see if it works tomorrow.

I really do ned to pile 6 old photos on the scanner glass and output them as individual photos.
