Equipment Questions

I've ripped over 100 of my movies to my Windows (Itunes Server) PC. I've bought 2 ATV2's for my upstairs living room and bedroom. I'm still in the process and have about 100 more DVD's to go.

Now staring at me is my collection of about 40-50 Blurays. I have a 65" 1080P TV in the Family Room I've yet to get an ATV2 for. Not sure the DVD rips will look good on it.

My PC only has a DVDRW drive, so what the cheapest option to get these BR's ripped?

My other question is I currently use a Linksys WRT54G router. I can play one DVD rip just fine, but 2 at a time is not happening. I wonder if BR rips will even play at HD quality.

So:

1. What are you using to rip your Blurays. Not wanting to spend a ton of money here.

2. What wireless N routers are you using that work well?
2b. My other concern is that I've heard if you hook a G device to an N network it drags it down to G speeds. How do you guys get around this? Keep the G router and chain it out he back of the N? Dual Band?

I picked up a $64.99 BR Reader from NewEgg. Then I used AnyDVD for 30 days to rip my BRDiscs. I did end up buying AnyDVD but if you only have 40 discs then you can use it for a month for free and have all the images already made before it expires. But it's worth the money ($80ish).

Not really sure about your BD ripping question...

As far as the wireless network, though, I have a Cisco (Linksys WRT610N) router that is dual band. It runs both 802.11g and 802.11n. I think there is a new model, but it works great, IMO.

I'm using a Sony bd-rom drive to read the disks.

I use anydvdhd to rip the disk. Then run it through clown-bd( strips the menus and gives u a single video/audio stream). Then use handbrake to make into m4v so iTunes can read it.

There are other ways out there with less steps but this gives me control over what's happening.


Also I use an airport extreme wired so can't comment on the wireless aspect. If u can run the Ethernet IMO it's worth it due to increased speed and not having to worry about drop outs
