I'm having some trouble with my system in my MacBook Pro. and after looking things over, the fellow at the Genius Bar recommended doing an archive and install first, and if that didn't work, then do an erase and install.

When I do a reinstall from the recovery partition however, I'm not given those options, it just reinstalls the system. I did that, but the problem persists, so I guess I need to do an erase and install. Should I be able to do that from the recovery partition? Im not getting an option for that.

I was told to choose the erase and install option. Is that wrong?

There is no erase and install option anymore. Just go into Disk Utility, Click on Macintosh HD, Erase (back up first if necessary), close Disk Utility, and continue with reinstalling the OS.

Thanks, I'm just coming to understand that! Now I need to make sure I do the right process for getting all my info and apps off of there and ack on after the system install. I'm guessing time machine...
