erased all my songs, says backing up phone

i have a iphone 3g 3.0 4.26.08 jb and unlocked for tmobile and everything worked fine until a couple weeks ago when i synced to itunes and it says backing up phone for a long time and when i disconnected my phone my ipod library was gone. added new songs to my phone and today all of them got erased as well. any suggestions?

i am still using itunes 8 as well.

A similar thing happened to me.
I plugged it into my computer over night to charge, and left in a hurry the next day by just unplugging it... I have no idea where it was at in the sync process.

I got to work and only had 1 song on it, but the space was taken as if everything was still there.

All was well after I did a full sync later. It took FOREVER for it to backup, and then put everything back on.

try this... and see if it's the same problem.. since your description was a bit vague.
