iPhone X Erased my iPhone without Apple ID

Hi!

Something weird happened yesterday, as I was preparing my iPhone to sell.
When I chose "Erase All Content and Settings", it never asked for my credentials (even when Find my iPhone was activated).
My friend (the buyer) was able to set it up with his own Apple ID.

I am a little concerned about this process, as I thought the login process was mandatory before erasing the phone and/or deactivating "Find my Iphone"...

Any thought?

To erase the phone you are asked to input your passcode not your Apple ID. To turn off find my iPhone, you enter your Apple ID... If you don’t use a passcode to unlock your phone, I’m not sure if it just erases or if it asks for the Apple ID to continue

But if I erase the phone, I'm also turning off "Find my iPhone"... When my friend started from scratch, he was able to set the phone up without my intervention...
 
So you didn't log out of find my iphone but it never asked him for the username and pw when setting it up? I've never seen or heard of this happening to anyone else.

Yep. That page also states:

If you turned on Find My iPhone, you might need to enter your Apple ID and password.

"MIGHT". I don't know what that "MIGHT" means...

Yeah it should’ve asked to turn off find my iPhone. Every time I’ve reset my devices it prompts to log out first.

Yep, freaked me out when I traded in my last phone at the Apple Store for iUP...I was excited for the new phone and wasn't really thinking, just following the guy's instructions, and realized he didn't have me sign out of iCloud or turn off Find my iPhone before erasing all content and settings. I freaked out for a moment but he assured me that it does it automatically as part of the process.

"Might" means that if you have Find my Phone enabled you will be asked to enter your Apple ID and password.
