I have an early 2015 MacBook Air and just bought a 2021 MacBook Pro 14. Both are running Monterey 12.5.1, or at least they say they are. I am prepping my MacBook Air to be returned to Apple for installation of a new battery. According to instructions to erase the data, click on the Apple, then System Preferences. Then I click on System Preferences at the upper left and I should see "Erase All Content and Settings". But on the MacBook Air there is no such option while on the MacBook Pro (which I do not want to erase) there is. Again, both computers are running Montereyt 12.5.1. The Apple agent I spoke with did not know why. Any ideas? And if it is that the Air is not capable of running the "full, updated Monterey", am I to go to the instructions for an older OS version to erase the Air?

Here's an Apple Help article that should assist you. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212749

Scroll most of the way to the bottom to the section titled "If you can't use Erase All Content and Settings"

The 2015 MBA has neither Apple Silicon nor a T2 Security Chip, so you'll want to follow the alternate steps provided in the links from that section.
