Erasing my Hard Drive problem!!

I just bought a MBP, and I am selling my old powerbook and want all the info off it. I have an external lacie drive that i have OSX installed on. So I booted off that in target mode on the old powerbook, so it was running the OS off the lacie. I want the internal hard drive erased. so i went to disc utility, and did 7pass erase utility, but it says "volume erase failed. unable to unmount disk." but im booting off the lacie, and i know i am trying to erase the internal HD.....

please help!

Make sure you're running Disk Utility off of the LaCie as well, not off the internal HD.

As the other poster suggested, you might be accidentally running DiskUtility off your internal drive.

By far the easiest way to erase your internal drive is to disconnect any external drives and boot the machine using the Restore DVD (or a Tiger install DVD). Before you start steping through the installer, go to the menubar and select "DiskUtility" from the menu. Since you have booted from the DVD, DiskUtility will have no problems erasing the internal drive.
