And why is he stepping down? You don't think it is for the reasons stated in the press release, do you?

Of course not. There surely was internal tension to justify his stepping down in the face of seemingly positive financial results, most probably due to Android's pathetic fragmentation and other failed initiatives such as Buzz.

This means that Schmidt has lost power at Google by assuming a future position of "executive director", which in the end means little more than a symbolic concession.

My hope is that Page, with his infantile management credentials, may screw up even more and finally drag Android to the lower position it deserves. Google should stick to search, web-based apps and that's all.

Almost every other development has been a blatant copy from others or a "me too" thing. Schmidt has behaved in an absolutely unethical manner at Apple and deserves to lose his fake luster.

p.s.: By the way, I got married in NC...small world, ain't it? ;)

in the press release it explained why. They had been talking about it for a while. Could be Eric just wants to spend more time with his family or wants a break from being the CEO.

Mind the pointless bashing I see from BRLawyer is an example of why Apple fans are thought so poorly of.

Schmidt was brought in on day one because he understood the bussiness since better. You are just looking at a reason to bash google but Schmidt was never one of the "founders" so to speak. That was always the other 2 guys.
