Erm, I think 13” may be a bit too small for me ...

My M1 MBP was delivered yesterday, to my nan’s place, so I’ll be unboxing it today.

However, I popped into the Apple Store to buy a USB-C to USB cable and I had a moment to play around, very briefly with a 13” MBP.

It’s so small!

I’m coming from a 24” iMac, so that’s probably why.

No pun intended, but do you think the 13” will grow on me?

Depends on what you're doing? For using one app at a time, or if you can work flicking back and forward between desktops then you'll be ok. OTOH, I've always maintained if you want more than one thing on screen at once, you need at least the 1680x1050 resolution, which is available, but uncomfortably small at 13.3".

This is my last concern
Coming from a 17" laptop then my current 15" rMBP I too am worried that 13" may be too small.
Maybe I can find a new way of organising things to combat this. I'll have to wait and see.
I'd love to wait for the 16" new model but that will be just too expensive for me, so 13" is realistically my only option.

I was going to try learning to code, and for some reason I couldn’t install all of the required components on my 24” iMac.

I guess I can only give it a try and see if I feel comfortable with it.

Do you still have the iMac? If so, couldn’t you just use that as an additional display when you need addition screen estate?

sounds like you’ll probably be ok, I just need reference windows open while working on a document and can’t manage going back and forward so I can’t get away with it. Also, with pre-retina iMacs you can use them in target display mode so you could use that as a larger monitor with your new machine if you wish!

I’ve got my money ready for the 14” whenever that is announced. I have a 15” mbp & don’t want the smaller 13” myself.

What you need is a Razer Project Valkyrie with 3 17.3" screens. Won't fit into your 13" MBP bag, though.

I intend to transfer my music library over, then retire the iMac.

I've been setting up the MBP (playing around with it) and I'm beginning to feel a bit more comfortable with it. Maybe it looked smaller in the store because there were also 16" MBPs about.

I'll just upgrade to the new 16" Mx when it launches.

the other alternative is to get the mini with a 27" display, if you don't need the portability.

Yeah, it looks adorable next to my 15", but it's not as much of a size difference compared to OP.

Thanks for the advice, but after owning a desktop for all of these years (my iMac is 2008!) I've wanted a laptop for ages.

I just changed the display setting to "scaled" and everything looks much better to me.

Can't wait to dump the 16" Intel MBP that is a lap burner and battery sucker...

That's why my first M1 is a Mini with dual displays - loving that a lot since my eyes don't do well with small screens.
