Error 13 in dfu mode

I just received an 8g 3g iPhone from a friend that has been jailbroken. It is stuck in dfu mode and I have had mo luck with doing a restore with iTunes as I always get an error 13. Can someone assist me in getting this phone back up and working in a non jailbroke mode or however it can be done. I am a novice at this so as much detail or links you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul.

Use a different USB port (use the USB ports off the MOBO) or try a different computer.
