iPod error (20) when trying to downgrade

well I've had 2.0 on my touch since launch and I dont like it, apps crash and I have found it less responsive (i.e. had touch in sleep mode with music playing double tapped home and took 5 presses of screen to change to next track).

so I had a look on net and seen I had to use iTunes 7.5 and downgrade to 1.1.4, my problem is when I have tried to downgrade on vista and leopard in 7.5 I keep getting error (20) the ipod "iPod" could not be restored.

anyone know a fix for error (20)?

Problems with iTunes 7.7?

I think there are errors in iTunes 7.7. My 1st and 2nd Generation Shuffles have both been bricked. All I get is alternating green and orange flashing lights on both. Apple's Shuffle support forums have reports of this from other people.
