So I updated my Mountain Lion OS recently, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to the App Store, but it also brought with it iTunes 11 (which I, like many, have been meticulously avoiding since it came out). Using Time Machine, I reverted back to the older version.
I now get the -42408 Error upon opening iTunes. I have some songs I've downloaded from iTunes for free due to a "sampler" I got at Austin City Limits a few years running, and it's pretty a pretty good music mix, so I'd be sad to never be able to access it again. All my other music is ripped from CDs/records or from CD Baby, etc (seriously).
So the issue is that these songs were downloaded back when I had my Apple ID associated with my university email address. I have since graduated, so I changed the email address to a personal Gmail account. I no longer have access to that email account as it no longer exists, and entering the password for that account doesn't work either (and neither does trying to retrieve the "forgotten" password; it's saying my birthdate is wrong).
The weirdest thing is that I only am having this issue NOW, but did not have an issue transferring the music from my MacBook Pro to this iMac earlier this year.
So...
x Deleting the SC folder does not fix it
x Clearing the email field, entering my new email and password does not work
x Entering the old password associated with the old account does not work
x Clicking "I forgot my password" does not work
x I cannot ask iTunes support for help; this iMac was bought through the refurb store and I didn't not get Apple Care so it's out of that "care period" (although I JUST realized that my phone is less than a year old, so I'm going to try with that serial number)
Am I ***** outta luck, here?
The other option is to scrub the music of the DRM data, but I'd rather not do that unless absolutely necessary. I mean, I got this music through legal means; I should not have to do something illegal to get it back. I see a lot of those kind of programs for PC, and I do have Bootcamp, so that is preferably my last resort.
