Hi!

I recently upgraded from OS X Mavericks to OS X 10.12.6 Sierra. It hasn't been painless unfortunately, but so far, knock wood, I think I have most bugs solved by reinstalling the operating system & system files.

One of the bugs which has not gone away is this error message whenever I restart my iMac or open iBooks:

Before I reinstalled the OS & Sys files Friday, iBooks (among other apps & processes) crashed frequently. Couldn't turn pages, etc., etc. It would freeze or disappear, lots of beachballing.

Since then only Safari & Pixelmator crashed, once each. A vast improvement.

This "helper application" error message seems like it should have a fairly easy fix.....but what?

Thanks!

  1. Not sure yet if this has helped but I noticed that the Apple ID for iBooks was still the wrong one. Was finally able to change it to correct account since reloading a fresh copy of Sierra & system files.
  2. Refined my internet search about the error message & found a couple posts on Apple Support about this problem. One possible solution is to restart the Mac in Safe mode so that caches are emptied. Will try this next.

Good morning! :)

I tried various things but finally seem to have resolved this annoying problem last night by deleting 2 files per this Apple Support page comment from JustasG. I'm posting the answer here in case someone else runs into this irritation.

Not only did JustasG's solution get rid of the recurring pop-up error message, I can finally view my iBooks Library in the order of books added or read, again.

It's the little things...
