I was able to download the file but when I try to install it I'm getting an error... "The installation failed. An error occurred installing the update."

Edit - I tried installing in safe mode but the same thing happened!

Please help!

What do I do after opening the console.app?

I'd really appreciate your help, please.

Thank you

Open the Console app and see what the specific failure says.

The problem seems to be a connection issue:
Jun 3 22:30:59 Tinas-MacBook-Pro softwareupdated[527]: SUBridgeOSUpdateManager: bridgeOS update prepare timed out!

Try creating a new admin account and try installing from the new admin account.

I managed to create the new admin account and update and install from the new admin account.

But what does that mean? Will I have to do that every time there is an update? Or should I erase and reinstall the disk?

Thank you very much for your help!

I created an admin user account.

I'm really worried! Am I going to have to repeat this every time there is an update? Or would it be better to erase and reinstall the OS?

Does anyone know what could be wrong?

When the issue occurred, I was in my admin account.

I searched for a solution on the net and someone else had the same problem. They recommended creating a new admin account and downloading and installing the update there. Then they said I could delete the new admin account.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Am I going to have to reformat?

I am not sure if anyone really can answer that for sure. But, hopefully not - even though, when bridgeOS is involved, all bets are off...
Here is what I personally would do:
0. Check that ALL my admin accounts can administer firmware properly. You may need to enable boot on external drive later.
Backup first:
1. Create bootable backup on external drive using CCC or Disk Duper.
2. Make sure all data are also backup in Time Machine or some other means.

Now, I would try to run installer of the same macOS version using the old admin account which failed before. This is sometimes called "reinstall in place", it should (note the should here) be non destructive and simply run through its course - at the end you should have working system with all your confirmation, data, and applications. This is great first step in fixing any weird system issues as it should resent most stuff to working condition. You need the full size installer (not the upgrade package) from AppStore. Links are also on Apple web site, so you can google that. Make sure you find links on apple.com and not some torrent site.
If it runs, you should be fine and your problem was some fluke.
If it fails again, I would try to run that same full installer in new admin account. If it runs there, your old sadmin account is "broken". If you can, delete the old admin account and use the new one for administration.
If you have more failures and complications, you may need to do something more drastic. I have no experience with dealing with T2 based machines, so I cannot provide any guidance on how to deal with those. Apple has some help pages on that.

Thank you very much for replying! I appreciate it!

Unfortunately, I'm not very good with computers. I have no idea how to

Create bootable backup on external drive using CCC or Disk Duper.

I would really appreciate if you could link some tutorials/video/websites that could help me figure all that out please?

I have downloaded the same supplemental update from the apple website and it has successfully downloaded and installed. What do you mean by full size installer (not the upgrade package)?

I hope you (or anyone else) can help me figure out "enabling boot on external drive, creating bootable backups and how to if my admin account can adminster firmware properly".

I do use time machine and have backups on three separate hard drives.

Thank you very much again!

You should find some mac expert friend who can help you. I am really afraid that instructions in this case could do more harm than good. Some of these things can end up badly if you do not know what you are doing.
Here is solution for you - keep good backups (time machine and at least one more on external drive) and if something happens, just take the thing with backup to Apple store. They are there to help you and that is why you pay extra for Apple products.
You have good (multiple) backups, you have nothing to worry about. Your system should be always possible to restore from these backups. Keep them routinely updated on sensible schedule (depends on your use pattern) and you are fine.
