ESD Installs Break Recovery Re-install

We often install from a USB stick via an ESD image, this works perfectly but i have found that if we ever need to use Recovery Partition to Re-isntall the OS the process fails at the point where the re-install verifies eligibility with Apple.

Afp548 state that "After authenticating with Apple and the iTunes store, the recovery partition installer downloads a fresh copy of InstallESD.dmg"

My point being are our re-installations failing due to an issue with authenticating to Apple store if so what is going on and how do i create an ESD installer that will also create a working recovery partition

If your system came with Mountain Lion try skipping the authentication step as it is licensed differently than Mountain Lion bought through the App Store.

As for the authenticating issue, what is the exact error?

As for the recovery partition, if you don't have one, installing from USB or the internet should create the recovery partition unless there is an issue with the disk partitions that already exist.

IF I had to reinstall OS X on my computer I'd rather use a copy I'd already downloaded instead of trying to install it over the net, it would save me a couple of hours. I actually have the Mountain Lion installer on a 45MB/s SD card which is pretty fast and great for installing from.

Personally, I've wiped and reinstalled Mountain Lion from ESD on USB many times, and never had an issue authenticating with Apple. But maybe that's because my MBA shipped with Lion and I bought ML from the App Store?

Ahh, the OP stated that the USB install worked fine and it was the Recovery Partition install that was having the issue.
