Is showing a bunch of stuff other than my favorites...does anyone know how to program what the ESPN widget shows?

I've always only seen Favorites in the widget, but suddenly saw an "NBA" section below my "Favorites" section with an NBA game that doesn't have any of my teams or anything like that.

I thought I remembered there being some widget options in the app, but I've looked around just a little bit ago and can't say that I've seen any (at least not in the latest version of the app).
I've gotten soccer, NBA teams that I don't follow at all and other sports I don't have in my favorites. Irritating since I can't find anything in the app to change it. I've even go as far as deleting the app and setting the app up again.
It's all somewhat odd. I was pretty sure they would only show favorites, and I don't think I've ever even seen anything there other than favorites until recently (perhaps because I almost always had at least a few favorites with recent or ongoing or upcoming games).
For me, this started within the past month or so. Seems ESPN just likes throwing other sports in the mix. So much for a favorites option.
They should really just stick to Favorites and that's it, like they used to (and like it's all meant to be). Not even sure how they pick out what to stick there randomly, given that it doesn't even correspond to my favorite sports, let alone teams. Disappointing.

I was considering going back to using Yahoo! Sports for their widget, but perhaps I'll give this a try before that.
Thanxs ... I installed it and will give it a try during the ACC and Big10 tourneys. Hopefully nothing else shows up except Tigers news ... which no news is good news for them.
The upside is that it's a fairly clean and fast reefeshing widget that also does a good job showing TV channels that games are on.
The bit of a downside (at least for me) is that games from the previous day disappear as soon as the day ends so you can't easily see some scores from yesterday if you were to check in the morning, for example. The widget also seems to visibly contract and expand as it updates, which isn't a big deal, but can be an it annoying.
I'm trying out Yahoo! Sports for its widget again along with The Score. I still like the ESPN one that has been updated for iOS 10, just wish they didn't start filling it with random stuff beyond what I select as my favorites.
Just had a play with my ESPN widget which i noticed was displaying other stuff. I think its the way they do the choosing of favourites that may cause it. If you just want certain teams then when in the Edit Favourites section you dont choose any of the leagues etc that are on offer just choose Skip then on the second page for teams just choose the teams you want to appear in the widget. I wanted to just see stuff for the Pats, Celtics and Red Sox but was seeing random NBA scores and when i checked the Favourites it was because i had the NBA selected in favourite leagues. I now have no leagues selected and just the three teams and i'm only seeing those teams as far as i can tell.
I am also seeing NBA scores in addition to my favorites, but I never had NBA selected in favorite leagues.
Just tried deselecting all of my favorite leagues so that just some teams are selected, but unfortunately that didn't change anything for the widget--I still see an NBA game score below my favorites.
It seems like when using the expanded widget if there are less than 4 games to display for favorites it will use up that space to show non-favorite games up to 4 games total essentially. Not sure why they can't just stick to favorites and show less games and that it, like it used to (at least I think). Or why it's some NBA games that are being used to fill the space and not some other leagues (at least maybe form some favorite leagues if any are selected).
Not sure then....i've just removed it from mine so will see how it goes. Prior to removing it i was seeing random NBA scores but since removing it i'm not.
The normal widget is currently showing the Bruins result from their last game and if i do "Show More" i get the upcoming Celtics game. I suspect this the latest game info available for the four teams i have set as the Pats have a bye week and its the baseball off season. Presumably as different results\fixtures for the four teams i have as favourites pass the widget will show them as required.
For what its worth i've also recently changed from the US to the UK version so unsure if that did something as well.
