As a general rule does Apple tent to quote particularly conservative ship dates, or are they usually right on the money?
i.e. Apple says my MBP will ship next Monday, the 20th. Can I expect it to ship, say, this thursday?
Also, how about their delivery dates? I seem to remember my iPod arriving in three days, as opposed to the quoted five days.
Thanks.

i was told my mbp would ship 15th march; delivery 20th march.

got shipping notice on the 4th march - estimated delivery 15th march

today i get an update: order consigned to carrier; estimated delivery back to 20th march! i know i didn't pay for the 2 day shipping, but 16 day delivery?!!

Mhm. I'm none the wiser either.

My monitor was estimated for today. It came on Friday.

My mini says: Estimated Delivery Date 13 Mar 2006 (Subject to change), but also says under carrier "In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly" as it has all weekend. I take it I wont be getting my mini today after all? :S

In my experiance, expected ship dates are pretty much fantasy.

On a good side though, my recent apple purchases arrived almost a week before the estimated delivery date.

If the item you are ordering says it is in stock now and shipping in 24hours, the wait is down to the delivery company, normally UPS, and I find they only take a couple of days instead of the quoted 5.

If the item has a lead time, then the wait is for apple to get the item from the far east into their local distribution center, and those days can end up turning into weeks. They really have no solid idea how long delivery will take until they actually have your allocated powerbook in stock at the warehouse. Before it has arrived they can estimate, so be prepared for it to slip.

1 Day earlier than expected ship date

I ordered mine on Feb 15, scheduled ship date Mar 16, actual ship date was Mar 12, scheduled arrival is Mar 15 (1 day earlier than it's previous ship estimate or 1 week & 1 day earlier than previous sched arrival). Your mileage may vary but mine was a CTO 2 GHz w/ 100 GB/7200 RPM HDD.
Good Luck!

Everything I have ever ordered from Apple came faster than I was told. It is part of the "underpromise and overdeliver" theory. Promise something in two weeks, deliver it in 10 days and the customer is delighted that they got it "early" when it really was never going to be there any later than 10 days anyway.

It is all about perception. You perceive that you got better service than you paid for and you are happy.

i agree with all you guys. I ordered my PowerMac last week, got told 7-10 business days it will ship, est day of shipping March 20, but it shipped this past Friday (10th) Should be here by wednesday

Mhm, delivery didn't take place today. The delivery has now been assigned to the courier though.

I want to track the delivery to see if it's coming tomorrow (the apple store now estimates I'll take delivery last Friday.. hmph..) but I can't find the courier name "FLEX POSTAL & HUB UK" anywhere! Any clues?

don'y worry - mine said that too. your shipping email will have a link to your order where there should have a "track shipment" or somesuch button that gives you updates on delivery times. my courier name wasn't given to me until today, and its being delivered tomorrow! if all else fails, ring apple after sales 0800 number

Found out today our branch, (where I work), doesn't look like it'll be selling the MBPs. My semi-order had a bit of a screw-up too. I'll still get one, just over two weeks from now at the latest I feel. Off work for a week, two weeks on Wednesday. Hopefully it will be in my hands by that point so I can play around with it for a week.

It's stupid, I have already persuaded a few people to wait for the new machines and some more have also come in and randomly asked about them. So far it only appears three branches will be selling them. I feel so cheated in many ways.

Mhm, I never got the email, they didn't bother putting in my email address initially for some bizzare reason. I know Apple use TNT, does anyone know the others?

Edit: Ok, my order status has updated with ANOTHER tracking number. I popped it into TNT and got some poor souls order from 07/10/2005 - if you live in WADEBRIDGE and signed DANIEL it could be your tracking info I'm looking at! :S

I can see it on Google Earth!

My macBook Pro has been sitting @ Hongqiao Int'l Airport since Saturday night 3:51 PM and it hasn't moved yet! I can see it on the tarmac from Google Earth!:D
No, seriously, freight doesn't move on the weekends. I use to be a freight dog (pilot) in another life and Monday night is when it starts moving again. I think port of entry is Alaska from Shanghai then it works its way to FedEx's main sorting hub in Memphis and then a quick flight to Pittsburgh then a truck Wednesday morning to my door in Beaver Falls (Chippewa) PA. I can't wait! I haven't been this anxious since my daughter was delivered, but we didn't use FedEx.:D
