I received my iMac yesterday and am still in the process of learning about OSX in general and this computer specifically.

If i hard wire the internet connection with an ethernet cable, should i turn off the airport connection? Does it matter?

Last night i tried to watch a couple of youtube videos. For a 1 min video, at 240p (lowest setting possible) it took like 15 min for the whole video to load. I checked speedtest.net on both the imac and my ipad and got over 11Mbps speed and 19-26ms ping.

Whats going on?

Same happens with me. Just some times its very fast, and some times not so fast. Kinda sucks:p

Is it a problem with safari, OSX, or youtube? I was thinking last night that if I had firefox or chrome installed or bootcamp set up that i'd be able to test those things out, but i was still in the process of getting things set up.

At least i know to turn off airport. thank you! :)

I don't even remember when I opened Safari last time. I just use Chrome, because I find it to be generally much faster than others and I just like it. After all web is Google's bread and butter, so I expect Chrome to be a top notch product.

However, I find YouTube to be slow at times, no matter what I use. I attribute it to the heavy network load on their side. After all YouTune alone is like 50% of the entire Internet traffic.
