Unknown to some folks, a small number of Ethernet hubs do NOT "negociate" their speed, duplex and DHCP addresses very well. Especially when one product is from vendor A and the other product is from vendor B. As a suggestion, configure your "wired" HUB and Mac workstation with fixed values. For example, Full Duplex, 100 MPBs, and fixed IP Addressing. And, use the MTU Discovery / Set tool to configure your Mac with a fixed MTU value as well.
If wondering, my iMac is using fixed MTU, Fixed (static) IP Addressing, fixed Router IP and fixed DNS IPs on its UTP "wired" connection. After applying these changes, my connection has been "solid as a rock".
Note: If already using static IPs / values within your home network, then convert to default DHCP with auto/auto settings.
Hope this helps...
