2mo old 2019 Mac Pro with dead ethernet ports. They show up on the hardware inventory in About my Mac but fail to register a connection with known good cables. Currently the unit is at my local Premiere Apple Service center waiting for a new logic board. I was informed today they are out of stock from Apple, and they are awaiting further information about how to resolve the repair.

This is the first time I needed major warranty service from Apple. I have Apple Care on it. Concerned about the availability of parts. Has anyone had a logic board replaced in a 2019 Mac Pro? If they can't source a new board will they give me a new unit?

Kind of annoying since it works fine otherwise, and I picked up a Thunderbolt ethernet dongle which is a satisfactory work around. Still- given how expensive this computer is I want it fixed, but I don't want to wait weeks with it sitting in the shop waiting for a part or replacement.

Interested in other's experience.

Ask if you can keep it until the parts arrive then bring it to the shop. I'm guessing yours is a work machine and it's needed, can't have down time - shop should understand given the value of these machines.

I did request that and the initial response is that Apple has a policy of retaining the unit while parts are being ordered. I am expecting this can be reasonably negotiated under the circumstances

Sounds like a new Mac Pro is imminent, OMFG OMFG OMFG!!

But I don't know how that would translate to your case. Quite offensive policy to not do anything with less than keeping the machine hostage.

Logic board is back ordered with no time frame of availability. I picked up the machine and reached out to Apple. Several phone calls later w 1+ hour hold times and still no information about part availability. The rep from Business and education (evidently they handle Mac Pro issues) I spoke with has not followed through with an update or responded to email.

I’m guessing build capacity is limited for these machines and there is not much of a demand for replacement logic boards. Still I am not at all impressed with Apple customer service so far. Will see what happens. . .

Follow up: Had to cycle through a few reps at Apple and many minutes on hold, but finally got someone who resolved the issue. He expedited a new logic board shipped to my local service center and called me when it was shipped. Two day turnover for swap and diagnostics- now up and running!
