So a few forum members from the other side of the pond have voiced their concerns that the iPhone, at the price point it was initially offered in the US, wouldn't do well in Europe as Europe has more less-expensive/more higher-tech phones in their market than we do in the US.

Wonder if that was a potential reason for the price cut?

I know that the US price that Apple sells things for don't correlate directly to the European price, but I couldn't imagine Apple trying to sell the iPhone here for $599 but having to sell it for the equivalent of lot less in Europe for it to be a success.
