I will be coming back to iPhone after three years on Android, but want jailbreak immediately. The iPhone 5 I am looking at has stock iOS 6.1.2 on it, and I see there is an untethered jailbreak out, but only by Evasi0n, and read that version can bring major viruses to your computer and is not safe ? Is that true ?

What are my options to jailbreak, if the phone is a stock AT&T running iOS 6.1.2 ?

Thanks

Yes, I am using 6.1.2 and jailbroken. Dude, jailbreak is better than nonjailbroken status.

The community protects itself in a way. For instance, pirating apps (main source of problems and malware) isn't allowed. Now you must be thinking, what's stopping you from doing it? Well, simple, evasi0n jailbreak locks itself in a way if your iPhone is found having any app that does piracy downloads.

OK thanks for quick replies. Just a person I know that would help me jailbreak, said the Evasi0n method was dangerous for some reason, and better off waiting for a better jailbreak due next week or so ?

I would be getting a one month old iPhone 5, running stock ATT on official iOS 6.1.2 NOT ever jailbreaked, and NOT unlocked.

I am running on Straight Talk AT&T Sim. I don't need an unlock to make Straight Talk ATT work on this iPhone 5 ? Just have to cut down the micro Sim, to nano size to fit ? But otherwise good to go ? And good to jailbreak it without worry ?

The evisi0n jailbreak has guys from the redsn0w team etc that have joined up to give us this method.

its safe and un tethered.

Follow all the instructions to the letter.

Whoever told you that is clueless.
Even if another tool comes out it will use the same exact exploits used by evasi0n to JB your device.
Its not dangerous or any other nonsense he told you.

^ This, as well as the post above.

To OP, whoever told you the nonsense that it was "dangerous" doesn't know what a jailbreak actually is and/or is deliberately drama-whoring. Normally I wouldn't comment just to repeat what has already been aptly stated by other posters, but the severity of the wrongness of what you've been told necessitates a re-emphasis that it is mis-information. evasi0n is produced by a team of well-established jailbreakers with known track records, and to my knowledge there is no other jailbreak (ie, no other exploits) even being rumored at present.

You are good to go using evasi0n on iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.2. Just follow the directions, make regular backups, and be smart about the sources from which you get stuff and you will be fine.

Rock-solid jailbreak experience. Only things I'm missing from 5.x.x are the ability to change the lockscreen camera app, and to record 60fps video.

1. Nonsense. Evasi0n is 100% safe. If anything does go wrong, a restore in iTunes cleans the mess up. Seriously.

2. Doesn't matter what iPhone it is, as long as it has up to 6.1.2, you will be fine.

3. No. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Oh man. Cydia developers would be throwing a party if that were true. So cruel of you to suggest that.

It is true. If you download the new piracy portal (the one after Installous), evasi0n screws your iTunes-iPhone USB connection. Slap on the wrist.

It is a bug, but not one the Devs are bent on fixing.

By all accounts this was not intentional. They've never admitted to it. Either way, there's a simple fix to get around this bug. The solution was plastered everywhere after the problem became wide spread. I sure would like to think they did it intentionally though! Haha

6.1.2 won't last long though - not with the Lockscreen being bypassed even on the official version.

6.1.3 is in beta and will likely close the JB holes, forcing people to make a tough decision...

(Unless Cydia can patch a fix for the Lockscreen bypass on 6.1.2..)

AppBread simply has a bug on 6.1.2. There's tons of posts showing the easy fix.

Nothing to see here.

When is 6.1.3 coming out?

If I was a betting man, I'd say within the next two weeks.

I want the evasi0n jailbreak, but I'm kinda waiting for Apple to finalize the 6.1.3 iOS because I don't like the fact that 6.1.2 is vulnerable to that security issue on locked screens.

I'm really hoping that Apple doesn't stuff us up and plug the exploits that allowed the jailbreaks on 6.1.2, when they release 6.1.3. Ugh! What a dilemma! To either download the evasi0n jailbreak now, or wait until Apple releases 6.1.3 hoping that the evad3rs will have a way to do a jailbreak on the upcoming 6.1.3.

My advice: you're best to jailbreak 6.1.2 now, and get your tweaks tested out and running stable on your phone. That way, if ever needed, you still have time to restore your phone via iTunes and re-jailbreak. Once Apple puts out the next release of iOS, you'd be forced to upgrade to that version upon a restore, and should 6.1.3 include patches for the evasi0n exploits, you might be up a creek without a jailbreakable paddle for some time. Who knows if and when the next jailbreak comes out.

Besides, I'd estimate that the odds of you losing your phone to someone who then knew how to do all those steps, just to get access to your contacts in the Phone app, is less than .001%. ;-)
