EVDO Card For MBP

Does anyone know of a Sprint PCS compatible EVDO card that will work with the MBP? I went to my local Sprint store but they are totally clueless, and when you say its for a mac they freak out even more.

i'm not 100% positive, but i would say since you're trying to combine two pretty new technologies, it'll be a while before anything is available. EVDO technology is almost brand new while the MBP mini card slot is as new as the MBPs (a couple months). my guess is that we won't have an EVDO card for the MBP for quite some time.

maybe someone with a little more knowledge can give a definitive answer.

You mean like the one from Verizon (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=2407)?

I haven't seen any for Sprint yet, but ExpressCard/34 wireless cards do exist.

I believe I saw a press release from Sierra recently that they were going to have a much faster EV-DO cards available in both PC Card and Express card form factors.

They weren't talking about the 400-700 Kbps but something over 2 Mbps. You might check their website for information.

Sorry, they are attached using USB, but since it's USB 2.0, that should be plenty of bandwidth.

Sprint has not released a air card compatible with the new slot in the macbook pro's. They are currently using the old cards.. I am told they will be offering the new cards soon.

Check out http://booster-antenna.com/. I bought the Verizon V640 from them (they work through a Verizon authorized dealer) last week, had it overnighted for $20, and it arrived the next day. It was also cheaper than getting it from Verizon directly. Add to that, for some reason Verizon recalled all the cards that were going to their retail stores because of a packaging error. Booster-antenna does have them, though, for $99, compared to Verizon's $179.

I just connect via bluetooth to my phone, since my phone is EVDO compatible (Samusung SPH-A900) i am getting speeds around 1.5-1.8MB per second, pretty damn quick imo. Once sprint comes out with a dedicated express34 card ill probably change over to that, till then ill use this method.

Do you pay extra for EV Do service with your cell service? I am also hooked on EV DO because my work PC has one (so that I can be connected at all times; well, almost all the times except when I am travelling in the middle of the farm counties). One of the reasons I am very hesitating to getting MB is no PC card slot (but, I heard USB-based EV DO would become available in the future).

Is EV DO used outside North America?

Unlimited Data is included in my "power vision" service that i pay extra for every month, so its not included in the base phone plans but its part of the extra features.

Works well, pretty fast too.
