I just wanted to say, and hopefully I'm not jinxing anything for myself, but macOS Monterey Beta 3 with the HD4000 and other patches has provided me with one of the most advanced and capable machines available! and We're still getting OTA updates correct?

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would ask here, how stable is PB 3 as a main operating system at this point?

I am already aware of the risks of betas as a main operating system. I am also aware that at some point, the Public Betas do become stable enough to use. I am wondering if we are at that point now?

I have already looked at the list of working/non-working apps and see that all my apps should work under it.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again; the beta process is not a straight line. for example, beta 2 was near-perfect here, but in beta 3, some ppl (including me) are having serious issues with the Mail app (for example).

there's no guarantees; some have great experiences, some have major problems... running the same beta.

so, if you're going to dive in, do so with your eyes opened (and a backup plan) every beta is a work-in-progress, ie.. a beta.

Mojave is my "main OS".

However...
I've installed Monterey on an external SSD just to boot it occasionally and play around with it. Currently on developer beta 3, I believe.

In my VERY limited use of it, I've found it to be fast and it hasn't crashed or hung.
My only complaint is that ... it's very "flat" and unattractive (in comparison to the earlier OS's I've liked, such as Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion, and Mojave). I wish they'd made it "look better"...

haha, this again. and after such a fun discussion on the big sur forum! maybe it's just me, but a: i like the look of the OS, and b: am more concerned about how an OS runs then whether GUI elements are flat or 'less flat'... 🤔

My big issue is usability…some of awkward changes affect that. I am happy to see the cartoonish look gone.

and (as endlessly discussed on the big sur thread)... not everyone has usability issues. and, i don't know what you're expecting; that apple will change the GUI because a handful of people on an internet forum want them to? 🤷‍♂️

There's a battery charge issue. It's not critical (the battery still charges), but the meter never updates. Putting the computer to sleep will update it, as will a restart. I believe once it hits 100% it also updates. Also, the charge time continues to update even though the meter doesn't. It only appears during charging, and not during discharge.

I don't follow the Big Sur thread...I was just saying that usability is more important than GUI...I just think they should focus more on usability than make pretty icons, flat or whatever skeuomorphic. I wasn’t referencing any specific usability issue...no need to go into the unified bar here...

to be honest, i don't have any usability issues (so, the GUI seems fine). but i understand that some do find usability to be compromised...

I just find the usability and GUI to be separate, for example the unified tabs, I don't care if they are a little bigger or smaller, round or square...as long as they stay put, it is more usable. The rest of the OS, really, isn't much different in the GUI from my experience, and have not really lost or gained anything of value....the last time that happened was when we lost Quicktime Quickview (I know its been awhile) ...most people didn’t even notice, but if you used it, you felt it...but things moved on, my newer video files for work, now are AVCHD, so I don't feel it anymore.
