Using an iPad Pro 10.5", CDT conducted a test comparing the old 61W USB-C adapter (2016) vs. new 61W adapter (2018) included with the MacBook Pro. The new 61W adapter supports the 15V profile which creates a wide gap in charging times between the two adapters.

The results speak for themselves. If you need a fast charge, pick up the A1947.

  • Blue = A1947 (2018) 61W, Liteon
  • Orange = A1718 (2016) 61W, Flextronics

My experience with USB-C charging has been hit or miss. Sometimes when I plug it in to the new 2018 61 watt charger, it doesn’t charge at all, and other times it rapid charges. No rhyme or reason to it. I recently purchased a new cable from a Apple thinking that could be the issue, but it didn’t help.

I recently lost 29W usbc = charged fast everytime. I picked up new 61w (2018) and experiencing the same. Sometimes it does not charge at all. I disconnect a reconnect and it starts to charge fast.
