I own my music and so I’ve transferred some songs, unfortunately some are duplicates or I don’t want certain songs. So I begin deleting them from the app and yet it still takes up space. What the??? I tried deleting it from the setting menus but it freezes up even though the phone is new and I have maybe 10 gb left in space. When will it go down ?

You’d need to use third party tools to delete the iTunes library on your iPhone to clear things up. Unfortunately online tutorial for this is kind of hard to find. You need to search quite a bit.

I experienced the same. The "deleted" songs are still on the iPhone and I could still see them when connected via USB to my Mac (iTunes/Finder). There I could actually delete them.
I also only use my own ripped music but switched to Smart-Playlists that I sync to the iPhone/iPod so I never have duplicates.

edit: I just remembered that I created an AppleScript that searches for duplicate tracks on a manually managed iPhone/iPod and automatically cleanes them. If there‘s interest, I could extract the appropriate code blocks. I know it works with iOS 15 and iTunes via Retroactive.
