I have lol. Back in 2010 I was rocking the iPhone 3gs and it was jail broken.. Not knowing any better I called Apple for some questions about why my signal sucked after an update....I told apple I tried fixing it myself by jail breaking it and trying to find the right tool to fix....

The apple customer service dude went off on me on the phone...He said you voided you're warranty by jail breaking and besides that your customer support warranty ran out a month ago, but now that I know you jail broke your phone you get nothing and hung up on me lol...

I've never had an Apple employee go off on me. Actually, one time many, many years ago, I planned a meeting at the Apple Store. When I got there, I completely forgot to restore my phone since it was jailbroken. I don't even remember what I used, but I removed all the tweaks from my phone and somehow hid the Cydia icon.

The guy that helped me plugged my phone into a computer and I saw Cydia pop up on his screen. Crap! Then he started looking through all of my pages of apps for the Cydia icon and couldn't find it. After he couldn't find it, he straight up asked me if I jailbroke my phone. I played dumb and acted like I didn't even know what that was. He still replaced my phone. :)

lol..... I've heard customers go nuts (as that would be the most likely to happen), but employers ? Not that i've seen.

Apple gets ** at me, when i tell them i'm right . but they don't go nuts..... The worse case is they just hang up on ya, and ya that's happened to me too often. but i keep coming back. :)

I would think support would have to be trained to not raise their voice for starters no matter now deranged the customer is.

Sounds like the training has gone down the tubes. When I went through their AppleCare support training they were very focused on keeping everything positive and never disconnecting a customer. They also shouldn't get rude if you've jailbroken your phone. The tech should have offered the out of warranty repair cost. Apple gives you good training on how to keep the angry customer going in circles and get them to admit they are wrong by proving it to themselves. I am surprised to hear that.

one time. in japan. in a very japanese way.
i bought a macbook air. they configured it at the ginza store.
i came back about 1 hour later, took it home.
the next day i began to notice the bottom casing was ever so slightly loose. the next day after that it was a little bit more loose. so i took it back and asked them to either fix it or give me a replacement.
the lady genius had no problem with this. in about 30 minutes or so she brought out a replacement machine.
but as we were finishing the deal, she said to me that no matter what might need to be fixed on this replacement machine that apple would not give me a replacement.
i thought about the significance of her words and realized that she really was saying that she was accusing me of opening the casing on the machine i replaced and that i made it loose.
of course i did not do that. i wouldn't void my apple care warranty and i certainly don't have the tool to do it.
so, i countered her words with: of course you will give me a replacement if anything is actually wrong within the warranty period. lets get a manager (she was actually the manager herself) and talk about how you can say that.
in end after about 20 minutes i won (probably). (probably because there was never a problem with that machine that would test that).
thats going "off", in japan.

The only customer service people in my experience who were rude and bitterly incompetent were HP.

Otherwise, I've never had what you described OP. If you're courteous and treat the advisor respectfully like a human being, I never find there's a reason for them to fly off the handle.

Dude In apple customer care was a real jerk. Yelled at me and hung up on me... All because I told him I jailbroke my phone.

Not sure about now, but back then Apple took it personal if you jailbroke your iPhone. You'd think they'd still appreciate the fact you bought there product.

Good enough to buy there product and get yelled at and hung up on.

People are people and you'll find all kinds in all kinds of customer facing (or not) positions. This isn't something odd or uncommon or in any way uniquely related to Apple.

Well in a way it sort of is, most companies don't allow it's employees to have a personal problem with it's customers based on a customer's choice. It's my iPhone and if I want to modify it no reason to be rude, scream at me and then slam the phone in my ear.... And back then if I could somehow complain to someone high up at Apple or even Steven Jobs himself... Weird thing of it I'm sure they'd insult me and slam the phone in my ear lol...

Most other companies let's say GM, Toyota, Samsung etc etc.. They'd say sorry you customized our car / product and you're warranty will be voided and sorry... most companies would be mature about it and not take it so personal.... So what I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS in 2010... Didn't know much about smartphones back then...

I'm not sure if any of you remember... But in 2010 AT&T was overloaded on its network (this is back when iPhone was only on AT&T) When I updated my iOS I went from 5 bars to 2 bars and nothing I could do about it. I looked at other iPhones back then with the same latest iOS update and the signal was terrible as well.. So I jailbroke my iphone thinking I could fix and get my signal back to full bars.. Well I couldn't so called Apple and asked a few questions... Then bam...

I believe back then Apple purposely did something in its software update to dumb down everyone's signal to help out AT&T network...and at the same time all of this was happening I read an article that AT&T needed to upgrade it's network badly, but needed a crap load of billions of dollars and they were holding off for awhile...

AT&T network needed upgraded but they didn't want to spend the money and iPhones signals were worse after the iOS update..hmm... I'm pretty smart at figuring things out by putting the pieces together...unfortunately the masses are kind of stupid.

Again, it's all down to representatives being human. Plenty of all kinds of weird or bad (or amazing or great) experiences with plenty of companies, untested to any official or unofficial policies the companies might or might not have. Again, none of this is really new or somehow surprising as far as businesses go.
