Do you ever actually shut your MBA down(asside from occaisional restart), or do you just close the cover?

yes. When I accidentally shove my headphone jack into the USB port (they are right next to each other on my Rev. B) my computer shuts off instantly!

In all seriousness, I only ever restart... I never shut the laptop off unless I will be away from it for a week or more.
