Every PC connection, backing up takes very long time?

It's just a 16G model, every time I connect it to PC try to transfer some files, it starts "backing up" as soon as the cable is connected, even though I do have anything new. Usually takes 20-30 minutes.
Is there a way to disable this or make it faster?

I just hit the little X to the right of the bar.
 
You may want to delete the old backup in iTunes and then try all over again.

I just cancel it, by hitting the X in the title window. Is there a way to delete the backup file that iTunes makes?
 
Deleting the backup doesn't work, I tried it and it still takes over an hour to backup.
 
I am thinking if it's because of GoodReader installed?
I have quite a lot pdfs stored under GoodReader.
All docs may be considered data by OS/iTure, and it backs up all pdfs every time it connects to PC.
Thoughts?
 
Yeah, my backups are taking a really long time as well and now I noticed my iPhone takes longer to back up too!
Something has changed.
I remember a while back there were complaints on how long it was taking to do iPhone back ups and they fixed it but it looks like that same problem is back again. :(

I don't think that is right... I a few PDF's in GoodReader, one is over 10 MB. I am only using 2.5 GB or about that much, my iPod uses more space and backups very quickly. I thought if I let it finish once the next time would be quicker, as that is what I had to do with my iPod, that doesn't work either.

Does it backup the whole OS as well?
 
1 hours, that's. Long time. When it happens for me I always wondered why the hell it was doing but it takes 4-5 for me at most.
 
I had the same problem, starting with my iPhone 3GS, after upgrading to iTunes 9.1. Then I had the same obscenely long backup times with the iPad. Here's how I fixed it:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Devices and delete existing backups
  2. Reset sync history
  3. Completely uninstall iTunes (use Apple KB article for step by step)
  4. Reboot
  5. Download iTunes and install
  6. Plug in and sync

This sync will take a long time because it's doing a backup as if it's the first backup for the device. But after that, it should be speedy again. Was for me.

*Note: I'm on a Windows 7 PC
 
I am looking at backup file folder now, something is wrong totally. The backup folder contains 8000+ files. This isn't right, is it?
The backup goes fairly fast initially up to 4000-5000 files created, and then getting slower. I have tried this either on PC and Macbook. Same result.
