which is a lot since I only had like 12 GB of free space ... then 11, 10... and now like 5. I have no idea what is taking up all this space, and like the topic states, every-time I restart Vista I lose even more space.

Perhaps system restore points? You can go to disk cleanup and in the additional options tab (not sure what it's called), you can delete all but the last restore point. That should get all your space back (if that's the problem).

System restore under Vista is set to 15% of disk space tops, I think.

One would hope that is 15% of the partition...
