Just received a gtx680 and it came with a single power cable that is split to to go to both power sockets on the card..any dicumentation i have read has it listed with two separate power cables?? Should i have any issues running off one power feed ( as long as i dont use the other) .

I am pyzon, just deleted email account associated with that uname and had to re-register, maybe an admin can get my email changed.

Depends if you have dual 6 pin version or 6 + 8 pin version. The various configurations for powering an internal graphics card are below:

A. 1 x PCIE Booster to 1 x 6 pin connector (75w) + PCIE slot (75w) = 150w

B. 2 x PCIE Booster to 2 x 6 pin connectors (150w) + PCIE slot (75w) = 225w

C. 2 x PCIE Booster to 1 x 8 pin connector (150w) using adaptor + Dual SATA to 6 pin connector using adaptor (108w max) + PCIE slot (75w) = 300-333w

You have to sacrifice drive bays for the last one using this cable.

Two people here have been successful with config C. The main issue is discovering if the SATA rail will be safe for long term.

Most here advise against trying to draw 150w from a single 75w PCIE Booster motherboard connector by using a Y splitter even if other people have done it. We don't have long term safety reports.

Use two cables (cheap to buy) and enjoy.

Thanks for the advice, this is a brand new card from owc. I may get two cables in place of one although i assume owc would not sell it the way it is if it caused problems.

----------

I have dual 6-pin version

Yes it is mac edition, i contacted owc about it. Box was sealed so not sure owc had anything to do with the supplied cables in the box. Not sure if something recently changed, or not. Never had a problem with owc myself, just found it odd to find a Y split power cable as most have pointed out this shouldnot be the norm even on evga site, cheers.

Edit even the box says two cables and it had the official evga seal in it, back to owc! Thanks

Baloney.

Did the "Y" cable have the Mini PCIE end that went on a cMP logic board?

Or was it a standard PC GTX680 y cable?

Would be pretty funny if OWC has joined the flashing game and is sending out flashed PC cards.

Did the box say "Mac Edition" anywhere on it?

Card itself should also say "Mac Edition" on it as well.

Will be interesting to get to the bottom of this.

No, standard PCIE and two molex 4 pins (3 pins each)

Yup mac edition on the box and card, evga tamper stickers. OWC were not much use saying it will work....i'm sure it does work but not for this install #, EVGA will send new cables after Jan 6, but bought 2 elsewhere.

Card itself should also say "Mac Edition" on it as well.

Will be interesting to get to the bottom of this.

I've purchased genuine Mac Edition GTX680 on multiple occasions and the package always came with 2 cables. I recommend using two cables. They sell them on eBay super cheap.
